Ferrosilicon is an alloy of iron and silicon. Ferrosilicon is made of coke, steel chips quartz (or silica) as raw material, iron silicon alloy made by electric furnace smelting. Because silicon and oxygen are easy to synthesize silicon dioxide, iron silicon is often used as deoxidizer in steelmaking. At the same time, because a large amount of heat is released during the formation of SiO2, it is also beneficial to improve the temperature of molten steel while deoxidizing. At the same time, iron silicon can also be used as alloying element additive, which is widely used in low alloy structural steel Among, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel, ferrosilicon is commonly used as reducing agent in ferroalloy production and chemical industry.

Among these uses, steelmaking industry, foundry industry and ferroalloy industry are the largest users of ferrosilicon. They consume more than 90% of ferrosilicon.
